Abstract

1479957 Bending metal PAWECK AG 5 Sept 1974 [7 Sept 1973 12 Nov 1973] 38839/74 Heading B3E A tool for bending tubes and other sections comprises a workpiece contacting member 4 and a pressure member 3 in the path of stroke of a ram 1, the two members abutting on inclined faces 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP>, so that at each ram stroke member 3 is advanced to bend the section about face 9 as the latter advances relative to abutments 12. In Figs. 1 and 2, a frame 6 supports abutments 12 and holds member 5 which supports member 4 by locating pins (not shown) and rubber pads 14, and together with member 5 encloses the section. The members 4, 5 are advanced across the frame at each ram stroke until member 5 abuts stop 15. The operative faces of members 4, 5 may be replaceable screwed-on parts. In the embodiment of Fig. 12, a former 114<SP>11</SP> of non-uniform curvature is clamped to the workpiece at 116, and member 104 is advanced towards abutments 112 to bend the workpiece locally to conform to the former, the workpiece with former attached being fed along its length as each part of the overall bend is completed. In a variation, the former has an end flange, and the workpiece abuts that flange instead of being clamped to the former, Fig. 11 (not shown).
