Abstract

1479618 Supplying IC engines; fuel injection pumps MOTORENFABRIK HATZ KG 22 Oct 1974 [12 Nov 1973] 45737/74 Headings F1A and F1B An injection system for an I.C. engine has a pump with a suction chamber 14s Fig. 2, gravity fed via a feed conduit 12, the system comprising a return flow conduit 18 with a ball-valve through which surplus fuel passes to the supply container. Fuel is propelled by a piston 24 into injector nozzles (not shown) via a spring-loaded valve 28 and a compression conduit 20, the major portion returning to the supply container via conduit 18. The ball 30 of the valve may be perforated to allow fuel to leak slowly out of conduit 18, alternatively the valve seat may be grooved. A non-return valve may be incorporated in the feed conduit. In another embodiment, Fig. 7, the feed and return flow conduits 12, 18 connect to a nipple 100 threaded to the pump body and communicate with the suction chamber 14s via a common passage 100i, the ball-valve being situated within the nipple above the junction with the feed conduit.
