Abstract

1,172,067. Fuel supply systems; spray carburetters. AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT and REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. July 9, 1968 [Sept. 13, 1967], No. 32739/68. Heading F1B. In a fuel supply system for an I. C. engine, a fuel injection pump a is supplied from a tank 5 by two feed pumps 1 and 2 connected in series and adapted to be driven by the engine. The pump 1 delivers fuel at a low pressure to the upper part of a chamber 9 providing a head of fuel above the chamber outlet 14 communicating with the inlet of the pump 2. Pump 2 delivers excess fuel at a high pressure, e.g. 1 Kg/cm<2>, to the injection pump a. The volume of fuel contained in the chamber 9 above the outlet 14 is at least equal to the volume of fuel delivered by the injection pump a during priming of the pump 1. Excess fuel from the pump 2 returns to the chamber 9 via a check valve 19 and excess fuel entering the chamber is returned to the tank 5 through a constriction 16. An electromagnetically actuated valve 24, in a by-pass conduit 23 connecting the output conduit 17 of the pump 2 to the engine air inlet manifold g, is connected in parallel with the starter h to be opened when the starter is operated and thereby provide a richer mixture for starting. A filter 7 is provided in the inlet conduit 6 to the pump 1 and a filter cartridge 12 is mounted in the chamber 9.
