Abstract

1479428 Laminating method SCOTT & FYFE Ltd 17 July 1974 [17 April 1973] 18414/73 Addition to 1422940 Heading B5N A method of producing a composite sheet material (Fig. 3) comprising applying textile material to a longitudinally extensible sheet 3 of crimped paper to reinforce same includes sewing thread 4 into the paper sheet to form a series of side-by-side substantially inextensible rows of stitches in the paper sheet and transversely to the direction of the crimps so that the rows of stitches set the paper sheet in the crimped condition and securing a layer of foamed material 11 to one surface of the paper sheet by the stitching so that ridges 12 are imparted to the free surface of the foamed sheet. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 1), a thin sheet of foamed material is secured to the creped paper sheet 3 by the stitches 4, reinforcing threads (not shown) transverse to the threads 4 being secured to the surface of the paper sheet remote from the thin sheet by the threads 4 and overlaid by an adhesively secured layer 6 of foamed synthetic rubber 6 having a ribbed configuration. The sheet of foamed material may be formed of natural or synthetic latex or polyester-urethane and the products of the invention may be used as carpet underlays.
