1478998 On and off castors PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 2 July 1974 [5 July 1973] 29340/74 Heading A4U [Also in Division D1] A trolley facilitating the movement of a heavy load, e.g. washing machine, to which it may be secured, comprises a T-shaped part 4 secured to the underside of the load, and a T-shaped part 9 movable relative to the part 4 under the control of a lever 10 to move wheels 5 and 6 journalled in the part 9, between a raised out of use position and a lowered ground engaging operative position. The lever 10 having a handle 34 is pivotally mounted at 11 on the fixed part 4, and includes a pin 12 which is guided in an arcuate slot 30 in the fixed part 4 and engages in a profiled slot 13 in the movable part 9, whereby arcuate movement of the handle 10 and hence pin 12 causes relative longitudinal sliding movement of the part 9 on the part 4 against an inter-connecting return spring 33. The spindles of the wheels 5-6 are journalled in the movable part 9, but also extend through downwardly inclined slots formed in vertical flanges on the fixed part 4 whereby the said relative longitudinal movement of the part 4 and 9 causes vertical relative movement also, as the spindles pass along the inclined slots, this moving the wheels 5 and 6 between operative and inoperative positions. The wheels are retained in their lowered operative position by a slight overcentre travel of the pin 12 in the slots 30 and 13. In other embodiments the wheels are retained in their operative positions by curving the inclined spindle slots or by forming ramps for the spindles.
