Abstract

1478810 Monitoring rate of change of current STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 20 Nov 1975 47767/75 Heading G1U In a circuit that detects the rate of change of current I c , Fig. 1, the current is repeatedly sampled by a Hall plate HE having a pulsed supply P1, T, each sample is stored on a capacitor C during the second half P3 of the sample duration P1, and each sample is compared, during the first half P2 of the sample duration, with the immediately preceeding sample already stored on the capacitor C. As shown in Fig. 1, the comparison is effected in both directions, by two amplifiers VC1, VC2, and if a sufficiently large change between two successive samples is detected a latch L is set into the corresponding one of its two states. A circuit Fig. 2 (not shown) shows the amplifier A of Fig. 1 constituted by a long-tailed pair (T1, T2), the switch SW constituted by further transistors (T3 to T6), and the comparator constituted by another longtailed pair (T7, T8) having its output stored on a further capacitor (C2) so that an output voltage equal to the difference between successive pairs of samples is available.
