1478306 Reclinable seatbacks BIRNAM PRODUCTS Ltd 8 Nov 1974 [16 Nov 1973] 53360/73 Heading A4J [Also in Division E2] In a pivot assembly, e.g. for inter-connecting a seat with a reclinable backrest, first and second pivotal members 11, 12 Fig. 1 are hinged at 13, an arm 14 being pivoted to member 11 and bearing at its other end a set of recesses 17, the other member 12 having at least two pins 18 such that interengagement under a bias of the recesses and pins locks the pivot at a desired angle. The arrangement may be as shown in Fig. 1 or may comprise an extension of member 11 beyond the pivot 13, the arm 14 in this case being pivotally secured to the extended end (11a) Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modification of the latter embodiment the arm 14 is of arcuate form and moves in an arcuate path. The pins and recesses may be replaced by teeth of square, Fig. 6 (not shown) or trapezoidal, Fig. 3 (not shown) or sinnous Fig. 4 (not shown) form on both member 12 and arm 14 (Figs. 3, 4, 6). The arm 14 may be restrained against undesired lateral movement by being sandwiched between two plates 32 and 32a. The pins and recesses may be fixed to members 14 and 12 respectively.
