Abstract
1483931 Optical slits VARIAN TECHTRON PTY Ltd 13 Aug 1974 [13 Aug 1973] 35646/ 74 Heading G2J A slit apparatus e.g. for a monochromator comprises a plate 2 e.g. of beryllium-copper alloy having opposed and spaced jaw sections 5, 6 and hinge means 12 integral with and inter-connecting the jaw sections 5, 6. To maintain the plate 2 flat it may be confined between two flat and parallel surfaces (22, 23), Fig. 2 (not shown). To change the slit widths a rotary actuator is connected at 29 to a spoked diamond-shape drive member 27 which is connected to the hinge means 12 via long, narrow control straps 34. In a modification Fig. 6 (not shown) the drive member is circular and the actuator is connected to the bridging sections 11. In another form of plate 2, Fig. 7 (not shown) the jaw sections lie between the drive member and the hinge means. In yet another form of plate 2, Fig. 8 (not shown) the slits are in lateral alignment and the drive member also functions as one of the hinge means. Each slit may be defined by jaw members attached to the jaw sections.
