Abstract

147,583. Still, C., [Firm of]. Dec. 10, 1917, [Convention date]. Ammonium sulphate.-Crude gas from coke ovens is passed through condensers 2, from which tar and ammoniacal liquor are collected, and then to scrubbers 8, 9, 10, 11 where it is sprayed with ammonia solution. A pump 28 circulates the gas to a saturator 37 in which any ammonia remaining is obtained as sulphate, and the gas finally passes at 40 to the place where it is to be used. The last traces of ammonia are removed from the carbonic acid and hydrogen sulphide leaving the column 44 of a still for working up the ammoniacal liquor from the scrubbers by passing them through a pipe 58 into a saturator 61 the acid from which overflows into the saturator 37. The gases from the saturator 61 are led to a plant 65 where the hydrogen sulphide is converted into sulphuric acid, which may be used in the saturators.
