Ammonium, sulphate, sulphocyanide, and other ammonium salts.-The cyanogen of crude coalgas is recovered in the form of ammonium sulphocyanide and this is then converted into ammonium sulphate or other ammonium salt by hydrolysis with sulphuric or other acid under conditions which ensure a good yield of ammonium salt. The conditions as to temperature, concentration, and proportions for obtaining this result are described. Preferably an excess of acid is used equal to the amount required to neutralize the ammonia in the gas from which the sulphocyanide has been obtained, and this liquor is then fed to the saturator. The Provisional Specification states that the cyanogen of the crude coal-gas is recovered as a sulphocyanide, preferably as ammonium sulphocyanide, for instance by washing with water or ammoniacal liquor containing suspended or dissolved sulphur.
