Abstract

1474690 Recyling thermoplastic tape JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd 30 Aug 1974 [30 Aug 1973] 40903/73 Heading B5A Apparatus for making pellets from waste thermoplastic strip 1 comprises a converging guide 2 which folds the strips into a number of layers, a pair of driven rolls having co-operating profiles 3, 4 to compress and distort the folded tape across its width to lock the layers together, and a cutter 12 to cut the strip into pellets for recycling. The strip 1 is fed between two halves of the guide 2 having grooves (18), Fig. 2, not shown, to fold the tape. From the guide, the tape passes between the rolls 3 and 4, which are formed as meshing gear wheels, Fig. 5, not shown, having circumferentially extending grooves (27). The distorted tape is then passed through feed rolls 8 and 9 and over an anvil 10 to the cutter 12. The cutter has oppositely angled blades 38, 40. If the tape breaks, the machine is stopped by a microswitch 47, actuated by trip levers 41. In Fig. 6, not shown, the driven rolls are each formed by two gear wheels angularly displaced in relation to each other.
