Abstract

1474423 Low temperature coolant ducting SIEMENS AG 30 July 1974 [1 Aug 1973] 33658/74 Addition to 1413214 Heading F2P [Also in Division H1] A low temperature coolant ducting comprises an inner tube 2, radiation shield 3, outer tube 4, and tubes 5 and 6 carrying a cryogenic medium such as liquid nitrogen. The radiation shield 3 and inner tube 2 are suspended for movement in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the ducting, by means of filamentary members 15, 16 and 17 attached to suspension elements 11 to 13 movably disposed in bars 7 to 9. The inner tube may also be movably suspended with respect to the radiation shield 3 (Fig. 4, not shown) and at least one electrical conductor may be disposed axially within the inner tube 2. Buffering means, provided to prevent the inner tube 2 from contacting the radiation shield 3 comprises wires 21, 22, pin-like members (28) (Fig. 2, not shown), curved bridge members (27), (31), (32) (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown), strips or cross members (41), (42) (Fig. 4, not shown) with rollers (43) and (44). The bridge members (31), (32) may comprise bosses (33) and ball, roller or other antifriction bearings may be provided on the bridge members and pin-like bodies. The buffering means are preferably made from materials having relatively low thermal conductivities, examples of which are disclosed in the Specification.
