Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent breakdown of an insulating support without causing thermal distorsion therein, by providing a gap between a supporting metal and a superconductor. CONSTITUTION:A slight gap is produced through the temperature of a superconductor between a supporting metal 8 and the superconductor. Consequently, the superconductor can move freely in longitudinal direction. The supporting metal 8 is secured through bolts to one end of an insulating support 4 the other end of which is secured to a vacuum container 1. Consequently, radial movement of the superconductor 6 causes movement of only the gap 9, and the superconductor 6 is held by the supporting metal 8 in the vacuum container 1.
