Abstract

1,040,451. Endless conveyers. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. March 26, 1963 [March 26, 1962], No. 11935/63. Heading B8A. A roller 10 carrying an endless belt 25 is supported by a shaft 11 fixed between frame members 12, 29 (initial adjustment being made by a screw 26). The shaft 11 is cranked at one end and carries a spherical bearing 21, laterally fixed by rings 27a, 27b, running in a journal 14 fixed to the roller 10. The cranked end of the shaft 11 carries a spherical bearing 22 free to slide along the shaft and running in a journal 24 formed in an end cap 16 free to slide along the roller 10 and connected by rods 18a, 18b, passing through slots 15a, 15b in the journal 14, to an end cap 17 also free to slide along the roller 10. Movement of the belt 25 laterally against either end cap 16, 17 causes the roller 10 to pivot about the bearing 21 as the bearing 22 is forced to slide along the cranked portion of the shaft 11; thus introducing a countervailing influence by the roller 10 on the belt 25.
