Abstract
1474358 Ion-plating with precious metal DAINI SEIKOSHA KK 3 Dec 1975 [3 Dec 1974] 49668/75 Heading C7F A substrate is ion-plated with Ag, Au, Pd, Rh or Pt or an alloy based thereon within a container, and thereafter heated to 150-700‹C within said container. A substrate 6 mounted on electode 3 may be glow-discharge cleaned by a plasma between electrodes 3 and 2; thereafter heat source 4 is energized to heat crucible 2, the potential difference between electrodes 2 and 3 establishing a field in the low-pressure Ar or He in vessel 1 to ionize and accelerate vapour of precious metal from 2. The substrate may be Fe, Cu, Co, Ni, Zn, Au, Ta, Nb, Al, Ti, Zr glass or plastics, and may be a watch case or part. After coating, source 2 may be used as a heater for the heating step, or a separate heater may be provided; where a plurality of layers are present this step causes alloying.
