Abstract

1474275 Water jet propulsion HYDRO-TECH CORP 25 July 1974 33255/74 Heading B7V A marine propulsion unit comprises a doublesuction impeller 104 within a casing 10 mounted inboard or outboard of a vessel 28, and driven by a shaft 36 to draw water from two inlets 144, 146, and pass it through a double-volute passage (166), (168), Fig. 5, not shown, to an outlet 172, 178, leading from the top of the pump housing, and nozzle 186. The nozzle is rotatable about two axes perpendicular to the axis of the shaft 36 by means of a ball-and-socket connection 188, 192 and a ball bearing arrangement 204. The nozzle includes a reverse deflector 258 pivotally mounted thereon with two outlets 264, 266. In Figs. 12-14, not shown, the outlet nozzle is pivoted about horizontal axis and has a vertical pivotal internal valve (294) for steering. The outlets can be straight following section 172.
