Abstract

1471109 Sealing gaskets W R GRACE & CO 10 April 1974 [12 April 1973] 17646/73 Heading B8T A container closure threadable in situ on a bottle, has a gasket 3 moulded as an integral lining, its configuration before sealing a bottle consisting of a substantially flat central panel portion 4, the diameter of which is 50-90% of the internal diameter of the closure, and an adjoining peripheral portion 5 which is thicker at all points than the central panel portion 4, and the thickness of which increases continuously or stepwise radially outwards to the skirt of the closure, disregarding any "moulding flash" present. The angle # is preferably in the range 25-50 degrees. The gasket is formed by heating a preferably polyvinylchloride pellet in the closure to softening temperature such that a cooled or heated mould member 7 may impart the desired shape to the gasket.
