Abstract

1470888 Multi-layer colour photographic silver halide material FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 1 July 1974 29150/74 Heading G2C A colour photographic material comprises a support bearing at least two photo-sensitive silver halide emulsion layers, at least one of which layers contains an interlayer interimage effect accelerator, i.e. an organic compound which is adsorbable by silver halide grains in a silver halide emulsion, and desorbable therefrom when the silver halide grains are developed, and on desorption, diffusible to an adjacent silver halide emulsion layer to inhibit development thereof, or an interlayer colour correction, ICC, coupler of the Formula:- where Cp is a coupler residue capable of coupling with an oxidation product of an aromatic primary amine colour developing agent and Z is I or an organic group which is capable of releasing a diffusible development inhibitor on coupling of Cp with the oxidation product, the material further comprising a colloid layer, capable of adsorbing an organic development inhibitor, on the photosensitive emulsion layer or between the photo- sensitive emulsion layer and the support, the colloid layer containing silver halide grains which are undevelopable by colour development. The material may comprise red-, green- and bluesensitive silver halide emulsion layers and may comprise a filter layer between two of these layers, the colloid layer being adjacent the filter layer or constituting the filter layer. Alternatively the colloid layer may be a protective layer. Z may have one of the Formulae:- where V is an aromatic homocyclic or heterocyclic ring, the heterocyclic ring containing at least one N atom and L is optionally substituted methine. The interlayer interimage effect accelerator may have one of the Formulae:- where X is S, O, Se or NR<SP>3</SP>; R<SP>3</SP> is H, aliphatic, aryl or heterocyclic; R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are each H, aliphatic or aryl; and Q completes a non-metallic heterocyclic ring. The silver halide grains in the colloid layer may be silver iodobromide e.g. containing less than 10 mole % iodide or silver bromide, may have a mean grain size of not more than 0À2 microns and may be present at 0À01-10 g silver per m<SP>2</SP>. The colloid layer may further comprise an adsorbent for development inhibitor e.g. a polymer latex, colloidal silica, aluminium hydroxide or colloidal metal. The material shows improved colour reproduction and can be processed rapidly at above 30‹ C without unduly uneven development.
