Abstract

1469237 Elevated railways L O BENNDAHL 29 May 1974 [30 May 1973] 25696/73 Heading B7L A conveyer system comprises self-propelled driving units 4 movable along an overhead rail 2, each unit 4 having means such as a pulley rod 6 for connection to a load carrier 9 or a suspended load, driving wheels 48 connected to a drive motor 44 and engaging a rail surface 12, and counter pressure wheels 52 engaging an opposed rail surface 14, the pulling rod 6 being operatively linked to the wheels 48 and 52 so that the force with which the wheels are urged against their respective rail surfaces is increased in response to increased force acting on the rod 6. The wheels 52 are mounted on a base chassis 34 from which extends an upright post 36 on which is pivotally mounted one end of an upper chassis 38 carrying the driving wheels 48 and motor 44, the other end of the chassis 38 being pivotally connected to a lever 40 which extends through an opening in base chassis 34 to a bracket 56 for the rod 6. The lever 40 and chassis 34 may be provided with co-operating force direction converting means such as a roller (68) on lever 40 acting on wedge members (70, 74) on chassis 34, Fig. 4 (not shown), which convert a force component exerted via rod 6 in a direction parallel to rail 2 into a force component acting perpendicular to the rail (i.e. vertically in Fig. 1).
