Abstract
1468809 Pneumatic discharge of hopper BRITISH STEEL CORP 26 April 1974 [26 April 1973] 19956/73 Heading B8A [Also in Division G1] A representative sample of particulate material in a hopper is removed by fluidizing the material and passing an upward jet of gas to approximately midway of the thus formed fluidized bed. In the figure, material to be sampled for plasma torch or arc optical emission analysis is placed in the bottom 18 of hopper 10. Fluidizing air enters through pipe 28 and porous floor 20. Entraining air at a higher pressure than the fluidizing air enters through pipe 30 and nozzle 32 which terminates slightly below conduit 52 so that particles are entrained by gas leaving nozzle 32 and enter conduit 52 to be carried up pipe 12 and into a plasma arc device. Fluidizing air assists conveyance by passing into cylindrical skirt 42 and boosting the entraining air at the exit from conduit 52.
