Abstract

1468667 Roof ventilator COLT INTERNATIONAL Ltd 7 June 1974 [13 June 1973] 28200/73 Heading F4V A ventilator has a controllable louvre assemblage 16 mounted directly over an opening in a roof and has, along two opposite sides, controllable louvre assemblages 21. The louvres 22 are sheltered by fixed side wings or baffles 62 which also induce outflow through the louvres 22 of vitiated air from the building; bottom and top openings 67 and 66 being defined by the wings. The louvres 22 are opened by means of a pneumatic jack 70 and are closed by return springs 75. Each louvre 22 is hinged about an axis 23. At each side of the ventilator, the louvres 22 are connected by a link 78. The louvres 16<SP>1</SP> and 22 may be opened fully, or to intermediate positions, or may be closed. The ventilator is built up from portal frames 10 which are spaced apart by longitudinally extending side members 12 and have the louvre assemblages 16 and 21 mounted thereon in frames 17 and 24. There is a row of frames 17 at the top of the ventilator (Fig. 3, not shown) and a row of frames 24 at each side (Fig. 2, not shown). The louvres 16<SP>1</SP> within each frame 17 are interconnected so as to be movable in unison all in corresponding directions. The louvres 16<SP>1</SP> in their frames 17 form structures as described in Specification 1,393,872. To prevent water from splashing from the roof through the side louvres there are sills 24<SP>1</SP>. In the event of fire, the louvres 16<SP>1</SP> are arranged to fully open and the louvres 22 to fully close. In a modification, there is at each side of the ventilator only one damper instead of three louvres 22.
