Abstract

1468249 Foam generator WARWICK PUMP & ENG CO Ltd 20 Aug 1975 [12 Aug 1974] 35505/74 Heading B1C A generator of foam for cleaning comprises a jet nozzle 3 connected to a source of pressurized liquid, a tube 12 along which the jet is directed, an air inlet connected to the tube near the nozzle and a labyrinth device 22, including at least one porous element, at the downstream end of the tube. As described and shown there are three devices 22 each comprising a disc 14 with peripheral apertures 23, a porous element consisting of seven 200 mesh gauze discs 15, and a disc 16 with a central aperture. The jet impinges on the disc 14. The tube 12 may have a jacket 13 with air inlet 20 remote from the nozzle and connected thereto through gaps 21 in a spider 11; the jacket retains foam in the event of backflow. The tube 12 may have a series of internal upsets (see Figs. 3 and 5, not shown) to prevent the jet adhering to the internal wall of the tube; the velocity of the jet may be 400 mile/hr. decreasing to 200 mile/hr. and the length/diameter ratio of the tube is conveniently 64:1. The porous element may alternatively be of sintered bronze.
