Abstract

1467480 Medicament injectors ABBOTT LABORATORIES 24 Sept 1974 [25 Sept 1973] 41567/74 Heading A5R A medicament injector 12 adapted to receive a medicament containing vial 11 having a stopper 16 movable therein and provided with internal threads 17, comprises an integral polypropylene holder 30 including a post 32 having a cannula 31 moulded therein, the post extending along a major portion of the cannula and having a hub 33 on the distal end 25 from which one end of the cannula projects and a threaded stem 38 on the proximal end 26 from which the other end of the cannula projects, the threads being interrupted to facilitate removal from a mould, and a pair of opposed, longitudinally extending wings 41 which project from a laterally extending base 40 adjacent the hub towards the threaded stem. The vial is received on the post by screwing the stopper onto the threaded stem whereupon the cannula pierces a diaphragm 18 of the stopper and medicament may then be forced down the cannula by pushing the vial into the holder, the stopper being restrained on a stop 37 on the post. The post is preferably of cruciform shape, but may alternatively have a circular or square crosssection. The vial is made of glass. A cap (50) Fig. 2, (not shown), may be positioned over the stem 38 and the portion of the cannula which projects therefrom prior to the positioning of a vial on the stem in order to maintain the stem sterile, the cap being removable by applying pressure to the wings. A stiffener rib 45 is moulded into holder 30.
