Abstract
1467412 Cracking SUMITOMO SHIPBUILDING & MACHINERY CO Ltd 28 March 1974 [31 March 1973(4) 16 April 1973 4 May 1973 20 Sept 1973] 13807/74 Heading C5E Polymeric materials or waste oils are thermally cracked in a fluidized bed, the cracked product is separated, e.g. by fractional distillation, into light and heavy fractions, the light fraction is cooled to separate it into vapour and liquid fractions, the vapour is burned and the burned gases discharged, and oils are recovered from the liquid fraction. The heavy fraction from the first separation may be filtered and recracked, using the heat from the burning of the vapour fraction. This second cracking may be in contact with fixed beds of refractory material, with intermittent burning off of coke, in particular two or more such beds may be arranged in parallel, with one bed being burned off while the other is or others are on stream. The liquid fraction or the combustion gases may be washed with water to remove compounds of sulphur or of chlorine. If the feed is waste oil, the fluidized bed contains particles, of e.g., quartz sand.
