Abstract

PURPOSE: To carbonize oil shale while increasing the resultant oil yield and reducing the operating cost without wasting the oil shale, by using two retorts for dry distilling a coarse granular oil shale and a fine particulate oil shale in combination.
CONSTITUTION: A raw oil shale is crushed with a crusher 1 and screened in a screen 2. A coarse graunlar oil shale is fed from the top of a cross-flow retort 4, fed into the retort 4 and dry distilled. Waste shale free from oil is discharged from the bottom of the retort 4, and a heat source gas is fed to an oil recovery apparatus 10 to recover the shale oil Gases from the oil recovery apparatus 10 are subjected to the indirect heat exchange in a gas heater 9 and fed as a dry distillation heat source gas to the bottom of the retort 4. On the other hand, a fine particulate shale is dry distilled with the waste shale and the high-temerature humidity waste shale from a carbon combustion furnace in a rotating retort 7, and the formed dry distillation gas is fed to the oil recovery apparatus 10.
