Abstract

146,738. Chapman, E. E. Aug. 9, 1919. Guarding against unauthorized use. - An anti-theft device for motor and other vehicles comprises a pair of pivoted members adapted to embrace and be locked to the wheel rim and tyre so as to cause the wheel to bump if the vehicle be driven; one of the members has a projection which makes a distinguishing mark in the roadway, thus enabling the vehicle to be traced. The member 2 is pivoted at 3 in a recess 10 in the member 1, and is provided with an extension 9 engaging a wall 13 of the recess, thus preventing the separation of the parts when locked by breaking the hinge pin. The members 1, 2 embrace the wbeel and are locked by means of a barrel lock 19 operating a bolt 35 engaging shoulders in a recess 36. The bolt 35 is formed with a socket to take the end of the lock member, the connexion between them being by means of a transverse pin 39 and slot, and with a hub 41 fitting in a bore 42 in the member 16. A flange 43 covers the joint between the members 16, 17 to prevent tampering.
