146,716. Mead, F. W. July 3, 1919. Rod couplings.-Relates to resilient couplings for connecting sidecars to motor-cycles &c. Fig. 1 shows the device applied to a connexion where there are two coupling-tubes side by side. Each tube B, C is attached to a sleeve D or E by means of U-bolts K, which pass round the sleeve and clamp the tube against its underside by means of a clamping-plate L. The sleeves D and E are constructed at each end with a bell-mouth, and are threaded upon a frame member A of the sidecar, with a resilient or other washer F between the two, and also at the outer ends as at F<2> and F<3>. Into each bell-mouth is fitted a rubber cone H projecting slightly from the sleeve. Upon the end of the frame member H screws a unit J, which when tightened up, compresses the cones H and locks the sleeves D and E tightly but resiliently. If the member A is a projecting frame member of the sidecar it is strengthened by a bridge M, extending from the bracket G to an arm N bolted upon the end of the frame member. The modification shown in Fig. 2 is used where it is desired that the coupling be adjustable along the frame member A. The connecting tube B is clamped between a pair of plates 0 and P, on which are formed the bell-mouthed sleeves D<2> and E<2>. The latter engage the rubber cones H, which are separated by washer F. The bolts R between the plates grip the tube B and also compress the rubber cones H to grip the tube A.
