Controllers, drum, with auxiliary switches.-A motor controller, particularly for use on a vehicle with batteries, is provided with supplementary contacts and a relay, so that the main circuit is made and broken by the relay armature as it is attracted or released. Connexions are shown in Fig. 1 for connecting the motor armature a, motor field c, and resistance d in series and supplying them from the batteries f, h in parallel. Movement of the controller cuts out the resistance d, varies the field connexions and then the battery connexions. Contacts g<2>, j<1> - - j<4> are provided on the drum so that in each contact position the actuating circuit of the relay i is completed and the relay actuated to close the main circuit. When the controller passes from one position to another, the relay-actuating circuit is broken before contacts in the motor circuit are separated. One of the contacts g<2> may be carried by an auxiliary drum k rotated with the main drum by means of a peg n<1> on a disk n attached by a spring o to the main drum. When the pedal p is operated to cut off the current, the rod q raises the disk n to disengage the peg n<1> from the auxiliary drum k, which is then returned to the zero position by the spring m. To start again the main drum must be returned to zero. In a modification, a second relay is employed to control the circuit of the main relay. The actuating-circuit of the second relay is completed only in the first controller position and closes a maintaining-circuit for itself and the main relay, the two relay windings being connected in parallel.
