1466764 Electrostatic recording materials KANZAKI PAPER MFG CO Ltd 19 March 1974 [20 March 1973] 12085/74 Heading B2E An electrostatic recording material comprises an electroconductive base sheet, e.g. paper or plastics impregnated or coated with inorganic salts, carbon black, powdered A1, Ni or Cu, polymeric vinyl-benzyl quaternary ammonium salt, sodium alginate, sodium polyacrylate or sodium polymethylene sulphonate, which has a dielectric layer on which a negatively charged image of electrical signal is to be formed, which layer contains at least one of guanidine, guanidine derivatives and guanidine salts. The guanidine compound may be at least one derivative of formula I wherein each of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 is a hydrogen atom, optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, optionally substituted C 1 -C 18 alkoxyl or acyl groups, optionally substituted phenyl groups, amino groups, substituted amino group, guanyl group, substituted guanyl group, nitro group, nitroso group, cyano group or -R<SP>a</SP>SO 2 , R<SP>a</SP> being phenyl or alkyl or salts of such guanidine derivatives. Many suitable guanidine compounds are specified. The dielectric compound may be dissolved in a solvent together with 0.05 to 20% guanidine compound and applied to the conductive substrate. Suitable dielectric materials include chlorinated rubber, alkyd resins, epoxy resins, polyurethanes and polymers and copolymers of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, vinyl acetal, vinylidene chloride, ethylene, styrene, acrylates and methacrylates or mixtures thereof.
