Abstract

1466576 Automatic circuit-breakers LEGRAND SA 18 April 1974 [19 April 1973] 17091/74 Addition to 1407067 Heading H1N In a circuit breaker of the kind described in the main Specification 1,407,067 the tripping lever 345 is modified and carries a pivot 337 by which it is mounted in a slot 367 for sliding and pivoting movement, this pivot forming a retaining stop for the movable contact 328, the lever having its coupling notch formed as a retaining notch 368 facing the pivot and being subjected to a tensile force by spring 332 acting through the movable contact and the pivot such that the retaining notch is forced on to the coupling projection 346. Tripping is effected by displacement of the free end of the tripping lever, by electromagnetic means or bending of a bimetallic strip 317, so that the lever is rotated about its pivot 337 to disengage the retaining notch from the projection 346 allowing the tripping lever to drop, its pivot sliding down in its slot 367, and thus permitting the movable contact retained by it to move under the influence of spring 332 away from the fixed contact 315 to open the switch. The hand lever 340 is released and turns under the action of a spring 342 to bring the retaining notch 368 and the coupling projection 346 into engagement again so that they return to their set positions when the hand lever is restored. In a second embodiment, Fig. 7, not shown, the movable contact is mounted on the pivot 337 by means of lugs and there is a stationary abutment for the tripping lever.
