1466270 Semi-conductor devices MULLARD Ltd 29 April 1974 [17 April 1973] 46220/74 Divided out of 1466269 Heading H1K [Also in Division G1] A semi-conductor device suitable for use as a liquid level senser comprises a sealed metal can 3, a thermally-sensitive resistance element formed by a piece of semi-conductor material 4, e.g. silicon or germanium, in the can, the material being mounted, e.g. by solder, in electrical and thermal contact with the can wall to allow heat exchange between the element and any liquid around the can, a seal 7, e.g. of glass, sealing the can, and leads 5, 6 projecting through the seal and connected respectively with the element 4 via a strip of spring metal 8 and with the wall of the can 3, the walls of the can having a low thermal conductance so that cooling of the thermistor 4 via the side walls of the can is insignificant compared with that via the end wall of the can when the can is immersed in liquid.
