Abstract
146,625. George, J. R. April 11, 1919. Winding and reeling.-In reeling-devices for rod-rolling mills in which the reeling and subsequent cooling are performed in vessels filled with inert or non-oxidizing gases, the cooling chamber is made portable and is capable of holding a number of coils. It comprises a casing a, a lid b, and a cap, there being liquid seals between the casing and lid and between the lid and cap, and also between a flange m on the coiling-device when the cap is removed and the casing raised to correct position under the coiling-device. Each casing contains a removable frame n which serves to guide the wire, support the coils, and facilitate their removal. To prevent the loose end of the wire from whirling after it leaves the roll, a trigger q which normally presses against the wire is released after the end has passed and switches in an electromotor which closes a roll p on to a roll o at the head of the coiling device, and these rolls are positively driven to feed the wire. A reeling- drum t in a safety screen is provided to take. a reel or for coiling wire that is not of circular section, and must not receive any twist when being coiled.
