Abstract
146,519. Western Electric Co., (Assignees of Heising, R. A.). Oct. 2, 1916, [Convention date]. Wireless telegraphy and signalling; electric oscillations, producing.-In order to give a negative potential to the grip of a tricde valve without providing a special battery, use is made of the potential difference which arises between the ends of a resistance connected in series with the grid of another valve which is generating oscillations. The valve 1 acts as an oscillation-generator, the plate circuit being connected to the grid through a variable condenser 7. A second condenser 9 provides a path for the plate-circuit oscillations other than that through the high-tension battery 3. The grid-current consists of unidirectional pulsations which can be resolved into a direct and an oscillatory component. Consequently a net potential difference obtains between the ends of the resistance 10 in the grid circuit, a condenser 11 serving to shunt the oscillatory component. The oscillations transmitted by the apparatus are taken from the plate circuits of the valves 13, and the grid circuits of these valves include in series (a) the secondary of the modulating transformer 14, (b) the secondary of the high frequency transformer 15, and (c) a portion of the resistance 10 which imparts a negative potential to the grids 5<1>.
