Abstract
1464884 Writing appliances K C PEN CO Inc 24 June 1974 27949/74 Heading B6P A writing instrument, having a writing cartridge 14 movable between retracted and projected positions and biased by spring 38 into the former, has a rockable pocket clip 16 which can be rocked in opposite directions to retract and project the cartridge 14. To project, the bead 54 is pressed to rock lever 64 about its fulcrum 68 so that its tip 20 follows guide surface 62 on element 18. In so doing, the element 18, which is attached to the cartridge 14, is depressed. When the tip 20 passes from guide surface 62 to guide surface 60 the cartridge is locked in its projected position, Fig. 2. To retract, the upper end of the clip 16 is pressed so that tip returns to contact guide surface 60. Fig. 5 differs in that the lever 110 engages the cartridge 104 and the guide surfaces 114, 116 are on a fixed element 106. The rim 124 acts as the fulcrum of the lever 110.
