Self-levelling apparatus-Relates to gyroscopic apparatus comprising an electric transmitter and a receiver for stabilizing the elevation of a gun or of a line in space, and consists mainly in the provision of means whereby corrections may be superimposed at the transmitter over the gyroscopic control. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a naval gun X is provided with a pointer F which can be set for range about the trunnion G; and the gun is elevated until this pointer comes opposite another pointer which is actuated through gearing e<1> by a receiver D' connected by leads b<8> to a transmitter B<4>, B<5> controlled by a gyroscope in a casing a<1>, The rotor B<4> of the transmitter is connected to the spindle a<2> of the gyroscopic apparatus by gearing including a sun and planet bevel gear b<1>, b<3>, b<6>, whereby the control of the gyroscope, transmitted by the rotation of the spindle a<2> relatively to the casing a<1> when the ship rolls, can be modified by rotating the pinion b<6> through gearing by means of a handle C. The gyroscopic apparatus and the hand-wheel C also serve to control a sight A<10> through a sun. and planet bevel gear a<5>, a<6>, a<8>. In a modification, the sight is actuated by a receiver connectedto the transmitter B<4>, B<5>; and the hand control of this transmitter is made to follow indications. given by a receiver connected to another handoperated transmitter at a distance. In a further modification, the hand control is replaced by thecontrol of a second gyroscope in line with thefirst one.
