Abstract

146,317. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. Dec. 16, 1915, [Convention date]. Sights. - Relates to guns having an independent line of sight as regards training, and consists in a construction in which the sighting - device, which is mounted on a part of the gun which partakes of the training movement of the barrel, is adjusted relatively to this part by an operating member which is so connected to the gun-training gear that, when the member is operated, the gun barrel and the sight rotate through the same angle but in opposite directions. In the construction shown, the sight J is mounted on a bracket B<3> carried by the gun cradle B, which turns with respect to the top carriage C about a pivot b<1>. The training-gear comprises a worm k<1>, carried by a hollow shaft K mounted on the top carriage C, engaging a toothed sector b<2> on the cradle. The worm is operated by differential gear k<2>, n<2>, q<2>, Fig. 4, actuated by either of the two hand-wheels m<1>, p<1>, Fig. 3, one of which, m<1>, is connected by a shaft N, bevel-gearing n<4>, r<1>, and a shaft T<2>, T<3> to mechanism for turning the sight relatively to the gun about a vertical pivot i<2>. The gears are so proportioned that when the hand-wheel, m<1> is operated the gun and sight are turned through equal and opposite angles, the direction of the sight line thus remaining fixed. When the hand-wheel p<1> is operated, both gun and sight turn together. Gun and sight elevating-gear of known construction is described. Specifications 18231/08 and 12753/11 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification in which the top carriage is made in two parts, the upper part being mounted so that it can be trained with respect to the lower part, while the gun-cradle can be trained with. respect to the upper part. The sight is mounted on the upper part of the top carriage. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
