To all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERIK HJALM'AR FRI- SELL, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Stockholm, in the Kingdom of Sweden, have invented a new and useful Adjusting Means for Ordnance, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the drawing'accompanying and forming a part hereof.
This invention relates to means for elevating and training ordnance mounted in carriages.
The object of the invention is to makeit possible to scour an obliquely extending mark, 2'. e. a mark extending at an angle to the horizontal, or the vertical plane, or both. The invention consists, chiefly, in that the trunnlons, or the like, of the barrel are adjustable in a plane forming an angle, suitably a right angle, with the axis of the barrel. In other words, the trunnions are adapted to swing about the axis of the barrel, either by the trunnions being movable on the barrel or the barrel with the trunnions attached thereto being adapted to turn about its axis.

These trunnions are ournaled in a second ring e which is wide enough to allow the barrel with the ring 0 to be swung freely on the trunnions d. The ring 6 is adapted to beadjusted and locked in position within an outerring or clamp f which is adapted to be swung laterally and to this end provided with a foot 9 supported by and adapted to be locked in position on the elevating are k. The latter is supported in usual manner in the carriage ,and adapted to be turned about the axis 2'.
The described device is used-in the following manner: When the barrel has been elevated by adjusting the are k and trained by swinging the ring f and these two parts have been locked in position, the ring 8 is turned in the ring f until the trunnions d Attached take up the oblique position corresponding to the oblique extension of the mark to be secured. The ring a is thereupon secured in position in the ring f andthe barrel is turned in the ring 0 so that theparts mounted on the barrel (the sighting device, the firing mechanism, etc.) obtain the positions required for scouring the mark. The ring 0 is thereupon secured in position on the barrel and; when the latter is thereupon swung laterally, the elevation is continuously changed during swinging, i. e. the mouth of the barrel is raised and lowered during swinging corresponding to the position of the obliquely extending mark.

so as to be adjusted in a plane forming an ring in such a manner as to be adjustable laterally therein.
4. In a gun, the combination of an adjustably supported outer ring, a second ring mounted in the said outer ring so as to be ad-' justed. in a plane forming an angle with the axis of the gun, a third ring mounted on trunnions in the said second ring in such a relation thereto as to permit lateral adjustment therein, and a barrel adjustably mounted in the said third ring.
5. In a gun, the combination of an elevating are, an outer ring supported by the said elevating are, a second ring mounted in the said outer ring so as to be adjusted 1n a plane forming an angle with the axis of the the said second ring in such a manner as to be adjustable laterally therein.

In a gun, the combination of an elevating arc, an outer ring supported by the said elevating are, a second ring mounted in the said outer ring so as to be adjusted in a plane forming an angle with the axis of the gun, a third ring mounted on trunnions in the said second ring in such a relation thereto as to permit lateral adjustment therein, and a barrel adjustably mounted in the said third ring.
7. In a gun, the combination of an elevating arc, an outer ring adjustably supported in the said elevating arc, a second ring mounted in the said outer ring so as to be adjusted in a plane forming an angle with the axis of the gun, and a barrel mounted on trunnions in the said second ring in such ERIK HJALMAR FRISELLQ Witnesses:
