Abstract

1464677 Cooling two-stroke engine cylinder liners SULZER BROS Ltd 29 July 1975 31724/75 Heading F1B A cylinder liner 1 for a two-stroke diesel engine has exhaust ports 3 in its wall and passages 13 for cooling water are formed in the webs 12 between the ports. A zone 17 of the liner wall between the ports 3 and the combustion chamber end of the liner, extending over a part or all the liner periphery, has a heat insulating fibrous layer 16 thereon or a sheet-metal shield plate 20, Fig. 4 spaced therefrom. The layer 16 or stagnant coolant in a chamber 21, Fig. 4, between the shield plate and the liner wall reduces cooling of the zone 17 of the liner wall by coolant leaving or entering the passages 13. The layer 16 may decrease in radial thickness in a direction towards the combustion chamber end of the liner.
