Abstract

In a material inlet on a fibre-opening unit preceding a spinning station, the rotating toothed card (1) is preceded by a pair of inlet rollers (2, 3) of unequal size. The larger roller (3) of this pair of inlet rollers has a smooth surface. The smaller roller (2) of the pair of rollers is located in the gusset between the larger roller and the card, touches the larger roller (3) and consists of a hard core (2a) and of an elastomeric surface layer (2b). In order to prevent the fibres from fanning out behind the larger inlet roller (3), a cover (4) closely adjacent to the latter is provided for the card (1). Furthermore, the distances of the larger roller (3) and the cover (4) from the cylinder of revolution (5) of the toothed tips (6) of the card (1) are reduced to such a small amount that there is virtually freedom from play. <IMAGE>
