Abstract
1463698 Enamelling metals MERCK & CO Inc 25 June 1974 [26 June 1973] 28181/74 Heading C1M [Also in Division C7] A composition for coating on to ferrous materials prior to annealing comprises magnesium oxide and/or hydroxide; a boron compound; an amorphous magnesia-silica complex in which the mole ratio MgO : SiO 2 is in the range 1 : 25 to 14 : 1; and 0À001 to 2À0% by weight of alkali metal oxide or hydroxide based on the weight of the complex. A slurry of the composition may be coated on to silicon steel by immersion, brushing or spraying. The steel is then annealed in a neutral or reducing atmosphere at a temperature between 950 and 1500‹ C. for 2 to 50 hours.
