Abstract

1463671 Irradiated foamed film IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 June 1974 [11 June 1973] 27588/73 Addition to 1306373 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] A wall covering comprises a foamed film formed from a blend of 60-90% by wt. of a low density ethylene polymer of density less than 0.934 g./cm.<SP>3</SP> and containing no more than 20% by wt. of copolymerizable monomers, and 40- 10% by wt. of a crystalline stereoregular olefine polymer made using a stereospecific catalyst, having an open celled structure and 40-90% by vol. of the film consisting of open cells and either (A) having the front surface (i.e. the surface to be printed thereon) corona discharge treated all over and the reverse surface corona discharge treated along bands adjacent the longitudinal edges of the film, or (B) having the front surface corona discharge treated all over with a greater degree of discharge treatment along bands adjacent the longitudinal edges of the film. The preferred crystalline olefine polymer is high density polyethylene of density 0À94-0À97 g./cm.<SP>3</SP>. The corona discharge treatment may be applied (A) to a film 1 led over an earthed roller 2, by means of electrodes 3, 5 and 6 (4 being a high voltage source); (B) to a film 9 passed between an earthed roller 8 and electrode 7; or (C) to a film 13, passed over rollers 10 and 11, by means of electrodes 12 and 14.
