Abstract

1512146 Electrolytic water purification SACHS SYSTEMTECHNIK GmbH 27 May 1976 [6 Oct 1975] 22165/76 Heading C7B Micro-organism laden water with specific resistance (0À5-6À6).10<SP>3</SP> ohm. cm. is purified between an anode containing Ag and a parallel cathode, the thickness d of the water stream being 1-4 mm. The water flow V(cm<SP>3</SP>/sec.) and anode area F (cm<SP>2</SP>) satisfy the relation F # cV where c = d + 1. An anode c.d. of 1À5-3À0 mA/cm<SP>2</SP> is used at a voltage high enough to generate active 02 at the anode. An anionic or asbestos diaphragm may separate the electrodes, in which case d is the anode to diaphragm spacing. A ledge adjacent the water inlet may cause turbulent flow. Ag may be used as anode with Cr-Mo-Ni-steel as cathode.
