1463325 Tables combined with cabinets; cabinets STEELCASE Inc 21 Oct 1974 45498/74 Headings A4B and A4H An office work station comprises in combination a work surface 16, 32 and an elevated storage area spaced above part of the work surface, said storage area including an open-fronted casing 24, support means 68 generally horizontally slidably mounted in the casing, and a manuscript tray 64 pivotally mounted on the support means, the support means being slidable between a first position wherein the tray is fully within the casing Fig. 2, (not shown) a second position wherein the tray is fully removed from the casing as shown, and a third intermediate position; the pivotal mounting permitting arbitrary positioning of the tray in one of a vertical, horizontal and various inclined positions. The casing includes laterally adjustable vertical partitions 46, 48, 50, defining sections 52, 56, 62, 54. End sections 52, 54 adjustably and interchangeably mount a storage and retrieval unit 40 and a telephonic unit 42. Section 56 mounts a vertically adjustable shelf 120 and the arms (72, 74) of a U-shaped support 68 on which the tray is pivoted slide in tubes (84) secured to the underside of shelf 120, the arms (72, 74) being frictionally engaged by bushings (88) in the tubes (84). Tray 64 is pivoted to the base (76) of support 68 by a pair of hinge assemblies (80) each comprising a pair of releasable hinge elements (92, 90) that frictionally encompass the base (76). With the tray fully within the casing and in either a horizontal or vertical position, the casing front can be closed by a cover 70 which is removed horizontally from an upper recess in casing 24 and then pivoted about a horizontal axis.
