Abstract

1463237 Comminuting refuse NORBA AB 22 April 1975 [3 May 1974] 16637/75 Heading B2A Refuse and the like is comminuted in an apparatus comprising a feed chamber 5, a plurality of mutually cooperating driven conveyor screws 1....4 at least one of the screws being intermittently reversed according to a predetermined programme, for temporarily feeding part of the refuse backwards. This prevents jamming by bulky rubbish. Each screw may have an individual motor 7, or there may be a common drive motor. A screw is immediately reversed if an overload is detected. 1 and 3 are right hand and 2 and 4 left hand screws. Timing and programming is determined by a relay system Fig. 6, not shown, within a cabinet 8. The cycle of operation-is preferably the same for all screws with the cycles of individual screws mutually displaced in time. Typically forward running time is 30-240 secs and backwards about 6 secs, at 10....15 r.p.m.
