Abstract

1463236 Odometers RECORD TAXAMETER AB 27 Feb 1975 [27 Feb 1974] 8197/75 Heading G1K [ Also in Divisions G4-6] An odometer for attachment to a vehicle wheel hub includes a printing mechanism for stamping on an inserted card (not shown) the distance travelled, as registered by a counting mechanism driven from an annular pendulum 8 coaxial with the hub, via a transmission 9, 16, 10. As shown the counting mechanism includes type wheels 19 for printing the distance. The printing mechanism, which includes hammers 25, a lifting arm 26, and a shaft 7, also prints an identifying number for the meter. A housing 2 is screwed to a base-plate 27, a plate 20 separating a flywheel compartment from a meter compartment. The flywheel 8 carries a weight 13 and is partly filled with lead balls 14, and is secured to a shaft 9. The front of the housing 2 is normally protected by a cover 3 carried on the shaft 7 and secured by a screw 5 engaging in a threaded bore 6 in the housing 2. A slot 4 for insertion of a card to be printed is normally closed by a shutter 23 held in place by the screw 5. When the screw is slackened off to release the cover 3, the shutter 23 is spring-urged axially and can be rotated clear of the slot 4. Pivoting the cover 3 to expose the front of the housing 2 acts via the shaft 7 to release and actuate the printing mechanism. The counting mechanism is advanced whichever way the vehicle wheel rotates.
