Abstract

146,307. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. Aug. 27, 1917, [Convention date]. Controllers.-Resistance varying apparatus for electric motors or dynamos consists of a rotating commutator-like structure A and stationary brushes B. Each segment of the commutator ring is connected to the next by a resistance a<3>, the whole forming a closed circle, and one of the brushes B' can be set in any desired angular relationship to the brush B so that the effective resistance across the 'brushes can be varied at will from zero to a maximum. The Figure shows the brushes connected to the field d' of a motor D. In a modification, for use with a generator field, four brushes are employed, two stationary and two movable, whereby the current across the two movable brushes can be varied from a positive to a negative maximum through zero.
