Abstract

1462366 Foundry moulds DOW CORNING Ltd 18 June 1974 [28 June 1973] 30749/73 Heading C3N A process for the production of a foundry mould or core comprises (A) mixing (i) foundry aggregate, (ii) a phenol-resol resin, a urea furan resin or a mixture of the said resins, (iii) a hardening agent for the resin and (iv) a silane of the general formula RSi(OR<SP>1</SP>) 3 in which R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-4 alkyl or C 2-4 alkoxy and R is or in which Q is -(CH 2 ) 3 -, -(CH 2 ) 4 - or -CH 2 CHCH 3 CH 2 -, and (B) thereafter shaping the mixture and hardening the shaped mixture. The silane may be used in an amount up to 20 parts per 100 parts by weight of resin, but advantageously in an amount 0À05-5%.
