Abstract
1462192 Waste bins A F GROUNDS 24 July 1974 [18 May 1973] 23941/73 Heading A4A [Also in Divisions B5 and B8] A container blow-moulded in one piece from plastics, e.g. L.D. polyethylene, comprises at least two adjacent annular regions which, on axial compression of the container, snap over from a first stable condition into a second stable condition in which the two regions are closer together to facilitate storage of the container when empty. The container may be a rubbish bin, rainwater vat, or a container or container liner for powders or liquid. However, as shown, the container is in the form of a moneybox moulded with a slot 9 at one end, Fig. 2 (not shown), in a mould, Fig. 3 (not shown), and the annular regions are constituted by ridges 1-7 producing a corrugated side wall form, the dimensions and thickness of which are such that on axial compression the ridges snap into a second stable form in which the crest of one ridge encircles the flank of an adjacent ridge. The diameters of the ridge crests may increase and then decrease, or decrease, or as shown decrease and then increase from one end of the container to the other. The container is provided with a carrying string 12, and the top 8 may be cut completely or nearly completely off to open the container and/or form a separate detachable or hinged lid, Fig. 5 (not shown). In another arrangement (not shown), a container has alternating relatively thick and thin annular regions which snap into a collapsed bellows-like stable state when axially compressed.
