Abstract

1461914 Overload protection of masted lift truck EATON CORP 20 Dec 1973 [27 Dec 1972] 59228/73 Heading B8H [Also in Division Fl] An hydraulic circuit, to prevent the forward tipping of a fork lift truck having a pair of hydraulic cylinders 28 to tilt the mast of the truck about a horizontal axis between either side of a vertical plane through said axis, comprises a tilt selector control 36 to respectively supply pressurized fluid from a source (not shown) and return the fluid to a tank (not shown) via pipes 46 or 68 to the full or annular sides of the piston 48, 50 of the cylinders 28. The annular and full area sides of the respective pistons are further interconnected by pipes 72, 74 and pipes 54, 56 respectively which are coupled via check valves 76, 58, whereby only the highest pressure from a respective side of the piston is coupled with a respective side of piston 88 in a tilt limiting valve 64. The piston 88 has an annular ring 90 through which fluid flows between the pipe 68 and the selector tilt control valve 36 during the normal tilting of the mast. As soon as the mast approaches an overbalance situation the pressure on the annular side of the pistons 48 moves the piston 88 to close the connection between the pipe 68 and the valve 36 and thereby prevent further motion in the overbalance direction. A by-pass pipe 100 with a one-way valve 102 allows fluid to be supplied to the cylinders 28 to move the mast away from an overbalance position.
