Abstract
1369530 Hydraulic control circuits VOLVO PENTA A B 13 Dec 1972 [21 Dec 1971] 57594/72 Heading F1P In the circuit shown in Fig.2 when fluid is fed to a space 16 above a piston 32 by a pump 1 and the resistance to movement of the piston rod 35 is below a predetermined level fluid from the chamber 20 is fed into the chamber 16 to produce rapid displacement of the piston. If resistance is above the predetermined level fluid from the chamber 20 is fed to a reservoir 6 resulting in a high-pressure slow displacement. Fluid passes from the pump 1 through a line 2, valve 37 and line 13 to chamber 16. If resistance to piston movement is low the pressure in the system is low and a piston 44 is displaced to open a check valve 45 so that fluid from the chamber 20 passes through a valve 27, line 15, valves 46, 45, chamber 47 and lines 2 and 13 to the chamber 16. When the resistance to piston movement is high the high-pressure produced in the fluid moves a piston 26 which opens a valve 38. Check valve 46 closes the passage to the still open valve 45 so the fluid passes from chamber 20 through line 15, valve 38 and a line 22 to the reservoir. Overload valves 29, 30 and 48 are provided. The valve 41 may be dispensed with in a second embodiment in which the valve 27 is replaced by a valve 50, Fig. 3. The latter has two neutral positions which respectively connect the chamber 20 to either the chamber 16 or the reservoir. The device is used for tilting or trimming the propeller of a boat and the valve member 51 is connected by a lost-motion linkage to the forward and reverse drive mechanism of the boat.
